Migraine Supplements Effectiveness Battle – Coq 10 Vs Magnesium!

Migraine SupplementsIn the search for treatment for migraine headaches, many people are electing supplements in order to reduce both the frequency and severity of attacks. As such, there is plenty of research currently being conducted testing the effectiveness of various vitamins and minerals, along with herbs and supplements. Migraine supplements are becoming more and more abundant, and CoQ10 migraine supplements along with the increasingly popular magnesium for migraines products are becoming hot items.

So how do you know which one to choose? Well, that’s a difficult question to answer. Migraines and magnesium have been associated with deficient women during their menstrual cycle. Studies have shown that migraine supplements that restore magnesium levels in these women helped to avert some migraines. It is thought that this works because magnesium can tone down the nerve excitability in the brain and relax muscles. While there is no concrete dosage established to date, Neurologists suggest that a daily dose of at least 375 mg (no set maximum) of migraine supplements may be beneficial in reducing migraines. Magnesium also helps maintain your body’s biological clock that controls your sleep cycle and temperature.

Alternatively, on the flip side of the supplement battle is CoQ10. Unlike magnesium, studies have been conducted showing the benefits of CoQ10 in migraine supplements. Over 4 months, participants saw a reduction in migraine frequency. More studies will need to be conducted, but it is evident that CoQ10 shows great promise in migraine supplements as treatment.

It’s also important to consider that the side effects associated with CoQ10 versus magnesium are different. While both magnesium and CoQ10 pose their share of side effects, mostly gastrointestinal, takers of CoQ10 supplements experienced these less than 1% of the time. This difference however could simply be due to the difference in the amount of studies and participants involved.

Remember to discuss any and all supplements you are considering with your health care provider. He or she will want to discuss possible drug interactions with medications you are currently taking, along with a supplement’s effects on your current health conditions. Anything that you take, including natural and herbal remedies can cause effects that can interact with medicines that you are taking or diseases or conditions that you might have.
